Mount Isa Mines
SCOPE
Onsite Lockout Tagout Equipment, in particular for Circuit Breakers.
In Australia, Glencore hold significant interests in a range of commodity industries across all mainland states and the Northern Territory. Since 2008, Glencore has invested over $23 billion into Australia, building new operations and sustaining existing operations.
Mount Isa Mines
In Mount Isa Glencore operates two separate mining and processing streams, copper and zinc, to deliver natural resources that have enduring roles in society. With the largest zinc resource base and the biggest underground network of mines in the world, Mount Isa Mines provide work for more than 3,200 employees and contractors.
These resources play a vital role in everyday life, from the tiny copper connections in our mobile phones, to the zinc used to galvanise industrial steel. As well as the Australian market, Mount Isa Mines products are exported to 16 countries across Asia, Europe and the United Kingdom, contributing billions of dollars to the Australian economy every year.
Safety is paramount
Glencore and Mount Isa Mines aim to be a leader in safety, and to create a workplace without fatalities, injuries or occupational diseases.
The safety of their workforce is the single most important aspect of managing daily operations. The nature of the mining industry involves hazards and risks, and while they cannot entirely eliminate them, their goal is to apply sound risk management principles, provide a fatality-free workplace and continue to reduce serious injuries.
Glencore follow a SafeWork initiative - a global program focusing on changing attitudes towards safety to bring about sustainable long-term change.
Lockout Tagout
Cirlock been supplying Mount Isa Mines for over 25 years with Lockout and tagout products. Last year the Cirlock team met Monica Joseph, Superintendent Electrical Maintenance, at the Queensland Mining Health and Safety Conference on the Gold Coast. Cirlock have discussed a custom-made Fuse Lockout device specifically for Mount Isa Mines and they have recently added the SLH-24 - 24-hole lockout hasp into their procurement system as a stocked item.
Monica said that Cirlock products are a crucial part of the Health & Safety policy at Mount Isa Mines. “Potentially hazardous plant energy sources must be carefully and consistently managed, and Cirlock’s products are critical in the operation’s risk management approach.”
Monica continued, “Our lockout procedures are critical for protecting our people from harm while they work. Cirlock provides reliable, sturdy locks that don’t fail, and can withstand the tough conditions in our plant, as well as innovative solutions to meet the dynamic needs of our operation.”
Cirlock are proud suppliers of Mount Isa Mines and look forward to a long-lasting partnership, as we all work towards the goal of a 100% Safe Work Environment.
